I'm having an equine phase!  I painted these some time ago but I've only just got around to varnishing them ready for framing.  Hope you enjoy.

Max with his catch

This one is fresh from my easel and it's the first one that I feel has captured my dog Max.  He's a cheeky little chap and this was painted from a photo that I took of him while we were on holiday in North Wales.  He didn't really catch the fish............not alive anyway!  He's always inquisitive and when he saw this mortified fish he just had to pick it up!  Bless!

This is what has been on my easel this week.  It's a my version of a famous painting by Jean Honore Fragonard.  I just can't stay away from the masters!

What I'm up to now.

Having gained some confidence in my abilities after studying Design and creativity with the Open University, I loosened up my style somewhat and decided to experiment more.  I threw caution to the wind and had a go at anything that inspired me.  Abstracts always used to frighten me, and I wouldn't even attempt to paint one, but now, still studying the masters like Kilmt for inspiration, I'm no longer afraid.  I will also experiment with mixed media, digital art and printing.

This is what I'm up to now..........................

Mixed paintings painted some years ago

Original portraits.  Most are paintings that I've done on commission.   Some are portraits that I've painted purely because I've been inspired by a photo I've found while browsing the internet. For instance, two of them are from a film clip in 'Girl with a Pearl Earring', it's Scarlett Johansson who played Griet in the film.  Some are family portraits.

Pastel paintings

Once again, inspired by one of the great masters, Degas.  I studied his methods and these are my efforts.  Unlike my copies of the masters in oils, I didn't paint any copies of his work, they are all my original work.

Paintings inspired by the masters in portraiture

This is my first post as a blogger. I will be using my blog as a portfolio of my work as an artist.

Around 10 years ago, when I first began painting in oils I took my inspiration from the portrait masters.  Vermeer, Bouguereau, Whitaker all inspired me and what follows are my versions of their work.  I hope that I've come somewhere near to what they achieved with their brilliant work and that my work doesn't offend.  Please feel free to comment.
